The Profit and Loss of Attention
In 2003 I worked nearly 100 hours a week to keep a job that ruined my life. My health was declining rapidly due to stress and lack of physical stimulation. My stomach stopped working due to an unknown condition called Gastroparesis. In a span of 2 weeks, I lost 19 pounds and nearly all hope. I had to do something about this and the quality of my family life.
I came up with a time management system to keep me on top of my work or face the risks of losing my job. Both of these would have been the losses that happened for failure to pay attention to my most valuable asset, myself. My self was a combination of my mental and physical state. I had to turn things around for no other reason than the idea that I would not let the ungrateful and cruel people that I worked with, win against me.
Learning to pay attention to me in a positive way changed my life for the better. Besides taking control of my time and redirecting it to develop health and balance, I gained the ability to take on more responsibility. My earnings went up by 2.5 times since then. My physical well being has also improved considerably. My doctors and blood work are excellent. I have profited from these circumstances and increased both the longevity and quality of life by building on the instinct to pay attention and do something. These principles are also now a part of my children’s lives. The profit and loss of your attention are under your control with the tools provided here.
How to Shift Your Attention Successfully
One of the most important activities that you can undertake to transition out of the herd mentality of distraction is to see how long you can sit with your mind clear of any fixations. The purpose of practicing meditation requires you to observe your thoughts without fixation. You can turn things around with a purpose. The habits of structuring your time, relationships, and goals according to a purpose will shift your attention with this focus.
The alternative to the aforementioned attention economy is the distraction economy. The long-term growth of the world’s economy is based on connections, raising standards for human potential and the efficiency of the mind toward solving problems. Losing focus and spending time where value is not created has the effect of a negative influence on the behavior and productivity of the leaders to follow. Overspending time online is how.
SELF-CARE and Attention
Attention is the capacity to concentrate as a process, using your mind and your ability to apply your training and creativity. Where SELF-CARE comes into play is enabling you to increase your perception. Being distracted interferes with this ability. You can invest in yourself and gain freedom, or you can turn your attention to your relationships and build stronger connections. Your goals and purpose will have a higher probability to manifest.
The challenge for most people that live out their lives without a real consideration for how they choose to live is learning too late in life that they did not live up to their potential, or the life they would have chosen to live when all the while, they had the power. Had they looked in the mirror with the intention to really see, they would have acted according their authentic state reveals with self-awareness. You must value your attention more than the consumer world to rise above your undefined self-esteem and long term consumer value to the market.
